7 Jun 2021 | Cricket

Glamorgan meet Gloucestershire in the opening Vitality Blast game of the season as the T20 competition gets underway at Sophia Gardens on Thursday, 10 June starting at 1830.

In all, the two teams have met 30 times previously in the competition with Glamorgan winning 14 matches and Gloucestershire 13, whilst the game at Cardiff in August 2019 ended in a dramatic tie. In all, Glamorgan have won 8 of the contests against Gloucestershire at Sophia Gardens and lost 5, with the results of their last six meetings at the Cardiff ground being:

July 10th, 2016 - Gloucestershire won by 9 wickets
Aug 3rd, 2017 - Gloucestershire won by 5 runs (DLS Method)
Aug 3rd, 2018 - Glamorgan won by 2 runs
Aug 1st, 2019 - Match Tied
Sept 18th 2020 - Glamorgan won by 17 runs

Last year’s match in the competition saw Andy Balbirnie make an unbeaten 99 as Glamorgan posted 201-6 - their highest-ever total against Gloucestershire in T20 cricket and their fifth highest overall in this format of the game.

As far as the best individual performances are concerned in T20 matches between the two teams, the match at Bristol in 2015 saw Jacques Rudolph make an unbeaten 101 for Glamorgan and Michael Klinger 104 for Gloucestershire – these remain the highest individual scores when the two counties have met each other in T20 cricket. Ryan Watkins’ return of 5/16 at Cardiff in 2009 and Benny Howell’s 5/18 at Cheltenham College in 2019 are the best-ever bowling performances for each team in games between Glamorgan and Gloucestershire.

There are some upcoming milestones for the Welsh county's players in T20 cricket this season, with Colin Ingram – whose overall career tally in all T20 cricket stands currently at 6,942 - being just 58 runs away from the landmark of 7,000 runs. Only 23 other batsmen around the world have reached this outstanding milestone in this variant of white-ball cricket.

Chris Cooke, who so far has scored 1,880 runs in 113 matches for Glamorgan, is also 120 runs away from becoming only the second batsman to score 2,000 runs for Glamorgan in T20 cricket.
