Glamorgan v Hampshire: Royal London Cup Head-to-Head

17 Aug 2022 | Cricket

Glamorgan play Hampshire at The Gnoll in Neath in their final home game in the group stages of the Royal London Cup with the 50-overs contest scheduled to start at 1100am on Friday, 19 August 2022. (writes Andrew Hignell)

This will be Hampshire’s first-ever visit to The Gnoll to play a List A game having previously met Glamorgan in limited-overs cricket at Sophia Gardens, Swansea and Ebbw Vale. Hampshire have visited Neath three times previously for Championship cricket, winning by an innings and 2 runs in 1958 and drawing with Glamorgan in 1969 and 1972.

The list below shows the result of the last six games in Wales between the two teams in List A cricket

3 June 2007 at Swansea – Hampshire won 13 runs
18 May 2008 at Cardiff – Hampshire won by 4 wkts
10 Aug 2012 at Cardiff - Hampshire won by 107 runs
2 Aug 2015 at Cardiff - No Result
31 July 2016 at Swansea – Hampshire won by 186 runs
3 June 2018 at Swansea – Hampshire won 4 wickets

In their most recent List A contest against Glamorgan, Hampshire were victorious at Swansea in 2018 despite being on 144-6, and still needing 84 runs in 21.1 overs. But an unbroken seventh wicket stand between Gareth Berg and Brad Taylor saw the visitor’s home with each batter making a half-century and showing the virtue of selective hitting on a wicket which gave some assistance to the slower bowlers. Befitting his greater experience, Berg was the more assertive of the match-winning pair and having completed a three-wicket spell himself earlier in the game, he completed a fine all-round game, striking a pair of massive sixes before seeing his side to victory in the 43rd over.

Glamorgan’s most recent home victory over Hampshire in List A cricket came in September 2005 when a superb bowling performance by the Glamorgan attack saw Hampshire dismissed for 69 inside 23.2 overs with David Harrison taking 4/28 and Andrew Davies 3/19 as Glamorgan eased to a 151-run victory in the day-night contest.
