After their record-breaking run chase against Surrey at Guildford on Sunday afternoon, and their handsome win on Saturday against the Middlesex Panthers at the SWALEC Stadium, the Welsh county sit proudly on top of the group table with two wins from their opening two games, whilst the Outlaws lie in second place by virtue of their decent run rate following their 29-run victory on Sunday against the Sussex Sharks at Horsham.

The two teams met each other at Lord's last September in the YB40 final, with the Outlaws defeating the Welsh county and ruined their dreams of a first-ever one-day final victory at the historic St. John's Wood ground. However, Glamorgan defeated the Outlaws on their last visit to Wales for a one-day match with the home side winning in 2012 in a rain-affected contest at Swansea by two runs under the Duckworth-Lewis Method, thanks to a vibrant half-century by Ben Wright. However, the Outlaws completed a home and away double over Glamorgan in 2011, winning at both Swansea and Nottingham.

Nottinghamshire have visited the Cardiff ground on four previous occasions for List A matches, with the first two - in 1988 and 1991 - seeing Glamorgan win the by six wickets and one run respectively. Each were 55 overs per side contests in the Benson and Hedges Cup, with the game at Sophia Gardens in 1988 seeing Matthew Maynard (108) and John Hopkins (81) share a match-winning stand of 187 for the third wicket.

Maynard was in the runs again in the match at Cardiff in May 1991 as he struck 62, whilst Alan Butcher weighed in with 57 as Glamorgan made 229/9 after batting first. Tim Robinson then led the Nottinghamshire reply with a fine 116, whilst Mark Crawley chipped in with 58, but a frugal spell of 3/38 by Mark Frost and the accuracy of the rest of the Glamorgan attack saw the East Midlands side fall two runs short of their victory target.

The following day, the two sides were in action again at the Sophia Gardens ground in a 40 overs Sunday League contest. For the second day running, Butcher and Maynard took the batting honours for the Welsh county with both batsmen posting half-centuries as Glamorgan ended on 223/2, but Nottinghamshire atoned for their defeat the previous day as Chris Broad struck 108 as the visitor's reached their target with an over to spare.

The weather was the only winner the only other time Nottinghamshire have met Glamorgan in a List A match at Cardiff with the contest in the Sunday League in September 1995 being washed out without a single ball being bowled.
