After their match against Gloucestershire on Friday night, Glamorgan will return to The SSE SWALEC to meet Somerset in the NatWest T20 Blast on Saturday, June 13th with the contest scheduled to get underway at 2.30pm (Gates opening - 1.00pm).
Somerset will be Glamorgan's next opponents at the SSE SWALEC, looking to avenge last year's 7-run defeat in the competition at Taunton.
This year Somerset have recorded two wins and two defeats before meeting Surrey at home on Friday night.
Glamorgan have a similar record, having also won two of their first four games, including last Friday night at The SSE SWALEC where Graham Wagg's nerveless final over saw the Welsh county to a nerve-jangling victory by four runs. There was some equally frugal death bowling by Michael Hogan, plus a fine come-back over from Craig Meschede in which he claimed two vital wickets.
It was a good evening for the on-loan all-rounder from Somerset who earlier in the night had shared a forceful opening partnership with Jacques Rudolph after being promoted up the order. Last summer, Meschede was in the Somerset squad for the match at Cardiff on July 4
th, but the contest ended up as a No Result as rain fell shortly after the toss had taken place and no play was possible for the rest of the evening.
The inactivity in 2014 was in direct contract to a thrilling encounter at Glamorgan's headquarters the previous year as Glamorgan comprehensively defeated Somerset by nine-wickets in front of a bumper crowd of 8,700. The star-studded Somerset side, who had come into the match on the back of victories in their opening games appeared to be the favourites on paper, but the Galactico's from the West Country were made to look rather third-rate. Graham Wagg took 3/29 as, together with support from his fellow bowlers, Somerset were restricted to a modest total of 125/6 in their 20 overs before Jim Allenby and Chris Cooke eased Glamorgan to an emphatic victory.
The contest between the two sides at Cardiff in 2012 was washed out, whilst the West Country side were victorious in 2011 when they played at the SWALEC Stadium with spinner Arul Suppiah recording a remarkable return of 6/5. Somerset also won in 2010 at the SWALEC Stadium as captain Marcus Trescothick blasted an imperious half-century to see his side to a seven-wicket victory under the Duckworth-Lewis Method.
