Match Preview

Glamorgan have started their t20 campaign with a victory against Hampshire plus a last-over defeat last Friday night at Chelmsford against the Essex Eagles. In contrast the Sharks started their season of matches in the T20 Blast with victories over Surrey and the Middlesex Panthers, but last Friday night they also went down to defeat, in their case against Hampshire at Hove.

The Welsh county were victorious the last time the two sides met at the Cardiff ground. The match in June 2011 saw a fine spell of swing bowling by Alex Jones thwarting the visitor's run chase, with the left-armer taking 3/18 as the Sharks stumbled to a two run defeat.

The following year, the Sharks lost once again at the SWALEC Stadium as on Twenty20 Finals Day - successfully staged at Glamorgan's headquarters - they were beaten by 36 runs by the Yorkshire Carnegie who had earlier posted 172-6 in their 20 overs thanks to an unbeaten 68 by Jonny Bairstow. Accurate seam and swing bowling was their undoing again as Tim Bresnan and Richard Pyrah made decisive inroads into the Sharks line-up with only Chris Nash, who struck 80 not out, offering any lengthy resistance.

The first appearance of Darren Sammy in Glamorgan ranks adds extra appeal to this floodlit contest, with the West Indies Twenty20 captain having joined the Welsh county fresh from the Indian Premier League and a spell as captain of the Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise.
