Glamorgan's Tough Day Against Somerset in Vitality Blast Encounter

16 Jun 2024 | Cricket

Glamorgan faced a challenging defeat against Somerset in the Vitality Blast South Group clash at the Cooper Associates County Ground, Taunton. Will Smeed's aggressive innings of 86 runs off just 48 balls propelled Somerset to a commanding total of 193 for eight after being put in to bat.

Somerset's innings started strongly with an opening partnership of 38 runs in under four overs between Smeed and Banton. However, Glamorgan's bowlers fought back, with Dan Douthwaite claiming four wickets for 37 runs in an eventful spell, including three wickets in a single over.

In response, Glamorgan struggled to build partnerships and were eventually bowled out for just 85 runs. Sam Northeast top-scored with 24 runs, but consistent wickets from Somerset's bowlers, including a pivotal lbw dismissal of Marnus Labuschagne by Lewis Gregory, kept Glamorgan on the back foot throughout their innings.

Glamorgan will next play Gloucestershire at home in the Severnside Derby on Thursday, 20 June 2024, in an evening game.
