Glamorgan fielded an unchanged team with Andrew Salter bowling the first over to Aneurin Donald and Rilee Rossouw, before Marchant de Lange and Lukas Carey joined forces. The latter struck with his second delivery as Donald miscued a pull to Jeremy Lawlor on the mid-wicket boundary. James Vince duly made his way to the middle to join Rossouw who struck the first boundary of the night as he pulled de Lange for four, but the fast bowler made amends as with the next ball he clean bowled his fellow South African.

19/2 prompted the arrival of Sam Northeast as Vince square-cut Carey before cover-driving Graham Wagg. Fakhar Zaman then began an accurate spell of left-arm spin during which he had Northeast adroitly stumped by Cooke. After Vince cover-drove Dan Douthwaite, Salter returned at the Hilton End and removed Vince who skied a catch to long-on where de Lange ran in and completed a good catch.

Chris Morris joined Liam Dawson who ended a series of one’s and two’s by swatting Salter for six before Morris scythed the spinner to the ropes at long-on. But Wagg returned and removed Morris courtesy of a good catch by Lawlor at backward square-leg with the fielder stepping over the rope and lobbing the ball into play before stepping back into play to complete the smart catch.

85/5 then became 95/6 as James Fuller drove Wagg straight to Fakhar at long-off before Dawson miscued a pull against de Lange and holed out at mid-wicket. Some late impetus then came in the closing overs as Lewis McManus scooped Wagg for six as well as de Lange for four with Hampshire ending on 128/7.

Hampshire made a decent start as with a solitary leg bye on the board as Fakhar edged Wood to first slip. Colin Ingram then struck the first boundary as he steered Kyle Abbott through point before cover-driving Morris. Lloyd also picked up Wood and deposited him over square-leg, but Abbott next over removed Ingram who drove to Dawson at short extra-cover. 29/2 saw Root join Lloyd with the pair scampering some singles until Root was bowled by Dawson attempting a ramp stroke.

42/3 saw Cooke make his way to the middle, but it was a brief stay as eight runs later he was also bowled by Dawson, albeit playing a more orthodox stroke. Next over Lloyd departed as he lofted Crane to the fielder at mid-wicket . Jeremy Lawlor swept Crane for four but later Dan Douthwaite was stumped as he lunged forward to the leg-spinner.

De Lange was promoted up the order with a license to hit as he smeared Morris to mid-wicket for four but later in the over Lawlor was caught at mid-wicket as Glamorgan slipped to 69/7. With Wagg as his next partner, de Lange drilled Crane through extra cover but later in the over he skied a drive to  long-on. 76/8 then became 77/9 as Morris bowled Wagg. Carey edged Morris for four but was then bowled by Dawson as Glamorgan were dismissed for 87 having lost their last eight wickets for 45.
