Historic Win for Glamorgan in Their First Ever Vitality Blast Match at Lord's

7 Jun 2024 | Cricket

Middlesex won the toss and chose to bat first, making a strong start with an opening stand of 108 runs in the first nine overs. Stephen Eskinazi (48) and Martin Andersson (57 off 34 balls) dominated the early play, with Glamorgan's bowlers struggling to take a wicket.

The breakthrough came in the tenth over, leading to a dramatic collapse as Middlesex were all out in the next 11 overs. Mason Crane bowled brilliantly, taking 3/28, while Timm van der Gugten delivered an outstanding penultimate over, claiming a triple wicket maiden (wicket, dot, wicket, dot, wicket, dot) to finish with 3/30. Andy Gorvin also contributed significantly with 2/33.

In their chase, Glamorgan lost a wicket on the first ball of their innings. However, Kiran Carlson responded aggressively, smashing 54 off 21 balls, his first fifty of the season. Sam Northeast continued his excellent form at Lord's, scoring 67 off 45 balls, his back-to-back fifties, while Chris Cooke's crucial contributions helped steer Glamorgan to victory. The target of 174 was achieved in the 19th over.

This historic win marks Glamorgan's first ever Vitality Blast match at Lord's Cricket Ground, and they celebrated it with a thrilling victory. Glamorgan will play against Essex today at the County Ground in Chelmsford.
