I am quite pleased with where we are in the game - Cooke

Chris Cooke led the way in Glamorgan's 407 all out with 136, his second century of the season, as the Welsh county finished Day 2 still leading by 156 with Northamptonshire 251/7 in reply.

Cooke was partnered well late on, with Dan Douthwaite at eight (44), James Harris at nine (17), James Weighell at ten (18) and Michael Hogan last in (25*) all contributing to another Glamorgan wagging tail.

“I am quite pleased with where we are in the game.

“I just stuck to my game plan, got a bit of luck here and there while trying to survive, while letting others bat around me.

“I’m sure we have the best nine, ten and 11 in the country. Hogan just comes out at the end and hits it really well which is the perfect foil for me."

Throughout the game, wickets seem to have fallen in pairs, and Adam Rossington and Saif Zaib's partnership threatened to take Northamptonshire close to parity before  a couple of quick wickets helped put Glamorgan on top at the halfway stage of the four days play. Cooke also pointed to the contributions from David Lloyd and James Weighell as key to his side's efforts with the ball.

“There is a small boundary on one side and a rapid boundary so it can be hard to stem the flow sometimes with the sweepers. It can feel flat but you can go bang-bang pretty quickly as you saw there.

“Rossington and Zaib’s partnerships was a little frustrating but we knew how the pitch would go, we knew there would be partnerships. We tried to keep it tight and took a couple of quick wickets which changes things.”

"We worked really hard, got our rewards and with the new ball round the corner we're in a good place.

"David Lloyd has been bowling really nicely this whole year. We lost Timm van der Gugten (out injured), we thought it was a nice change up to give Lloydy the new ball and he bowled beautifully.

"James Weighell came in and looked the part, an important run-out and didn't miss top of off-stump when he bowled. He's chuffed with it, he's going to take time to settle but he's going to be an important player for us."
