In the last session we bowled really well - van der Gugten

Northamptonshire closed Day 2 in the Bob Willis Trophy clash against Glamorgan on 288/5, leading by 29, with Timm van der Gugten leading the way for Glamorgan taking two wickets including the opener Curran and the dangerous Proctor thanks to a world-class catch from Nick Selman.

van der Gugten's spell of 2/25 just before lunch gave his side some momentum, and he admitted that while the side 'tried a bit too hard early', he thought that the bowling unit finished the day in the right way.

"We were probably guilty of trying a bit too hard early on, but in the last session we bowled really well as a unit and that's the template we have to take forward to try to restrict them, then bat well in the second innings.

"I got on a bit of a roll, the ball's coming out nicely at the moment, but all the bowlers bowled really well at times.

Callum Taylor followed up his debut century with a maiden wicket, taking Northants' own first-class maiden centurion Charlie Thurston, and van der Gugten acknowledges that Taylor has given the side some hope in the game.

"We are a little bit behind the game at the moment though Callum played a phenomenal innings to get us back into it when we were staring down the barrel.

"We've got a few debutants and youngsters playing so the energy's up and we're all just enjoying playing cricket again after a long time off the field."
