Ingram - Looking to Build for Next Year

12 Sep 2015 | Cricket
The performance of Glamorgan batsman Colin Ingram was the highlight on a disappointing fourth day of the LV= County Championship match against Kent at The SSE SWALEC.
Ingram scored his maiden Championship century for Glamorgan today, beating his earlier best of 89, but was short on batting partners to provide further resistance against the Kent attack as the Welsh county finished well short of saving the match.

Ingram who had scored four half centuries in four-day cricket before the Kent match, was happy to finally convert what began as a good partnership alongside James Kettleborough yesterday before bad light and rain delayed the match.

I didn't think it would mean as much as it actually does, because its mean a long hard graft this season, said Colin.

I've had plenty of starts, but hopefully now I'm finding my way and can use these last few games to build a good game for next season.

This was a massively disappointing result for us, and we've hit a bit of a slump, but looking at the last two games hopefully we can turn it round. After a good chat in the changing room the guys have said we need to lay the foundation for next season.

Sometimes through tough times you pick up some really good stuff so hopefully we can look at it that way and build for next year.

Kent medium pace bowler Darren Stevens did the bulk of the damage taking 5 wickets in the rain shortened morning session as Glamorgan lost 5 wickets for 42 runs.

I don't know what Darren Stevens did this morning, but he seemed to be finding a spot just outside off stump and it was keeping quite low as well added Ingram.

Looking at his season stats he's had a good one and bowls some tricky spells so congrats to him on his five-for.

Glamorgan are back up to fourth in the table but level on points with Northants below them who they now face next week at Wantage Road. Essex now sit third, whilst Gloucestershire and Kent are close behind, but although Glamorgan face stiff opposition to hold onto a top four finish, Ingram is not ready to give up yet and hopes by finishing the season well he can take form into the new South African domestic season which starts shortly after the end of the County Championship.

Next week is an opportunity to go out and scrap hard.

I'm going straight into a new season, so there's no promised land of a break coming up for me and every innings is important.

I've tried really hard this year so hopefully I can put a few things in place at the end of this season that I can bring back with me to start next season.

I'm in the peak of my career at 30 right now so hopefully if I can do a few things right I can take some form from here back home with me.

2016 Glamorgan membership packs have been despatched and will be arriving next week.
