Despite a third Royal London One-Day century in five innings from Colin Ingram, Glamorgan's visit to Lord's ended in a convincing defeat yesterday as James Harris picked up 4 wickets before Dawid Malan's career-best score led Middlesex to victory.
Glamorgan, fielding a number of youngsters in the match following the decision to deduct a further 3 points from their tally last week, were unable to contain the strong Middlesex batting line-up.
After a ponderous start, Ingram scored 102 off 93 balls to help set the home team a target of 252 to win. However despite the best efforts of Andrew Salter to contain the Middlesex batters and wickets for Dewi Penrhyn Jones and Kieran Bull, Middlesex were able to canter to the target.
It was always going to be a tough fixture against a motivated and experienced Middlesex team playing at their home ground, particularly with a number of young players in the side, but the opportunity to give youngsters a chance at the home of cricket will surely only be of benefit to their longer term development, as Colin Ingram confirmed.
It's always nice to come to Lord's, said Colin Ingram, the Glamorgan century-maker, it's a good day out and I just kept working hard. When you're playing well it's key to realise that and try to extend it as long as possible. I was fortunate again to do that today and thoroughly enjoyed it.
It was nice to see two young guys (spinners Andrew Salter and Kieran Bull) do well, so that's invaluable experience for them and even some of the other younger guys, it'll be a good experience if a harsh one.
Glamorgan's Royal London One-Day Cup campaign concludes tomorrow (Wednesday) at Old Trafford against Lancashire Lightning who are in fifth spot and one of four teams on 7 points in the pool vying for a quarter-final place.
Without points deductions this year, Glamorgan would still be above Lancashire in the table, evidence of the Welsh county's early form in the competition. This year they are now unable to finish higher than eighth but will be comforted by starting next year's campaign without a minus.
Glamorgan supporters who purchased tickets for last year's NatWest T20 Blast quarter-final at Old Trafford can exchange their tickets from the rain affected game last year to attend the Royal London One-Day Cup match against Lancashire tomorrow or any day of the LV=County Championship match at Old Trafford starting Friday.
Supporters should go to the ticket office on Brian Statham Way to exchange
