Glamorgan reduced Derbyshire to 135/5 after the Welsh county racked up 550/5 thanks in large part to a record-breaking 313* from captain David Lloyd.
The North Walian became only the third person to ever score a triple century for the Club as he struck the second-highest individual score in the Club's history. It was also the highest score by a Glamorgan batter at Sophia Gardens, and the highest score made by a Glamorgan captain.
“It feels a bit surreal to be honest," Lloyd admitted.
"It’s not something you think of before the game and I’m very fortunate it has happened in this game and I am very pleased with how it has gone so far.
“Once I got to 100 my main focus was to get myself back in, start again, and get as many runs as I could possibly get. I thought I went through the gears quite well and it’s nice to repay the faith from the club to be honest.
“I am pleased with myself that I am capable of doing it and it has given me a lot of confidence after a tough season so far. Obviously Sam had a tremendous knock earlier in the season, I knew Steve James had got 309 and I’ve had a nice message from him.
“I thought we bowled very well, the bowlers hit their lengths nicely and there is obviously a bit of turn in the wicket. It will be tough going, we will have to be patient, but hopefully we have enough time in the game to bowl them out.”
