Glamorgan dominated play on the second day of their Specsavers County Championship Division Two clash against Leicestershire at Sophia Gardens, as they left the visitors on the brink of following on at 191 for nine.
The Welsh county had gained maximum batting points from the penultimate ball of the 110th over, and were dismissed for 435 with captain Chris Cooke top scoring with a belligerent 96.
The visitors then suffered a collapse in reply. falling from 85 for no wicket, to 87 for five. Loan signing Samit Patel and Ruaidhri Smith were the pick of the Glamorgan bowlers with three wickets apiece.
“We’re very happy," admitted Cooke. "It was a good day, and it was nice to back up the foundations we set yesterday where we had three very good sessions.
"It was very pleasing that we could back it up and put ourselves in a good position. I think the first hour, we just wanted to consolidate and just bat properly and see if we had a sniff of maximum batting points and have a little pop at the end.
"We got a few balls in the right places and it was nice to get some batting points on what was a good batting wicket.
“We didn’t bowl very well to start with and Horton came out and played some nice shots.
"The pace off with Samit changed the momentum a little bit and we rotated the seamers and bowled brilliantly from then on, and it was just one of those things. We got our rewards there.”
