It's always nice to contribute - Hemphrey

Glamorgan's unbeaten run in the Specsavers County Championship was ended as Middlesex defeated the home side by 256 runs at Sophia Gardens.

Some late order hitting provided some entertainment in the closing stages, with Charlie Hemphrey's 72 from 250 balls the main resistance during the innings.

“Apart from the first half of the first day, we were always behind in this game," said Hemphrey. "Credit to Middlesex, they played well, gathered momentum and held on to it to the end. It was good to show some fight and make them work for it. That’s what we’ve been good at this year and why we are where we are in the table.

"It's always nice to contribute. Preferably it would be in a winning cause but I've had a quiet couple of games without kicking on. It was nice to do my job - the longer I could have done it the better but that’s the way it goes.

"It was definitely a new ball wicket and we had our chance to really put them under pressure in the first innings. They played well towards the end of that and Malan played a brilliant innings and was well supported.

"They came out and hit us really, really hard in that first evening and its tough to come back that. They took that momentum and never let it go. We’ve done that to many teams this year with lower order runs, and that's the way the game went.

"It's important to keep doing what we’ve been doing, scrapping hard, scrapping as a group. We need to make sure we take the same fight into Colwyn Bay and then the September games."
