Captain David Lloyd said the side were ‘extremely disappointed’ after a late collapse put Middlesex firmly in control after day three at Lord’s.
The Welsh county began with a stand of 123 between Lloyd (70) and Eddie Byrom before losing eight wickets for 68 runs, with the lead just 15 heading into the final day.
“We’re extremely disappointed, especially after the start we had today,” said Lloyd.
“We got ourselves into a very good position to go forward in the game, but then it was poor batting throughout the order.
“I thought their bowlers had a good spell where they held their lengths, and we got caught in a mind-set where we could have been more pro-active to put the pressure back on them.
“And then when we had the opportunity to score, we were stuck in a rut and everything we played at we nicked.”
