James Harris signs for Glamorgan for another two years

Glamorgan County Cricket Club is delighted to announce that fast bowling allrounder James Harris will stay at the Club for another two years.

Born in Morriston, he learned his cricket in Pontarddulais before making his first-class debut for Glamorgan in 2007 against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge, becoming the youngest bowler to take a Championship wicket for Glamorgan, aged just 16 years and 351 days.

A fortnight later, just days after his 17th birthday, he wrote another entry in the record books, taking 12 wickets in the County Championship match against Gloucestershire in Bristol, including 7/66 in the first innings on the way to becoming the youngest person to take 10 wickets in a match for the Welsh County.

He also proved himself as a decent lower middle-order batter and was selected for the England Under 19 and England Lions teams, before being called up for England in an ODI series in New Zealand at the end of 2012.

Following a move to Middlesex in 2013, he returned to Glamorgan full-time in 2022.

Despite a spell on the sidelines through injury, Harris still made an impact during the 2024 season and took his 600th first-class wicket in a season’s best 5/73 in the home game against Yorkshire.  He has also notched up 96 List A and 48 T20 career wickets and more than 5,000 career runs.

Harris, who is also Chair of the Professional Cricketers’ Association, said the following about staying at Glamorgan: “I’m very happy to extend my contract at Glamorgan, as a born and bred Welshman, there is nothing that makes me more proud than to wear the Daffodil on my chest.

“I’m excited at the direction of travel and believe fully in the work that Grant, Sam and Kiran are leading; I’m looking forward to playing my part over the next couple of seasons.”

Glamorgan Director of Cricket, Mark Wallace added: ““It’s fantastic that James will be staying with the Club for the forseeable future.

“He’s a fantastic role model both on and off the field for us and one of the finest professionals in the game.

“He passed 600 first class wickets last season and we look forward to plenty more for the Club in the coming years.”
