Glamorgan County Cricket Club is proud to announce that Ben Kellaway and Asa Tribe have been selected in the England Lions squad for their tour of Australia this winter.
The Young Lions will play four multi-day matches Down Under, as a prelude to the Men's Ashes. The opening match in Perth will see the England Lions play the senior England side for a three-day friendly starting 13 November, followed by a four-day match against Cricket Australia XI later that month at the same venue.
The squad will then travel to the Australian capital Canberra, where the Prime Ministers XI will be their opponent for their third match of the tour, a two-day day/night game at the Manuka Oval. Finally, the tour will end at the Allan Border Field in Brisbane, where the Young Lions will face Australia 'A' for their final four-day match of the tour.
The 18 players selected will have development camps in October at the ECB Performance Centre in Loughborough University before touring Australia, where they are due to assemble in early November.
2025 was a standout year for Ben Kellaway. After completing his Biomedical Sciences degree at Cardiff University, he enjoyed a breakthrough season with Glamorgan, highlighted by a maiden County Championship century of 181* against Kent and career-best bowling figures of 6/111 against Gloucestershire.
On 15 July, Ben celebrated a remarkable day - signing as a Welsh Fire wildcard for The Hundred, graduating in Cardiff, and then heading to Loughborough for an ECB spin camp led by legends Andrew Flintoff, Kumar Sangakkara and Graeme Swann.
Asa Tribe also enjoyed a benchmark season with Glamorgan in 2025, producing high-scoring performances across formats. He struck his maiden first-class century with 107 against Leicestershire, before compiling 731 runs at an average of over 45 in the County Championship, including a career-best 206. His List A campaign was even more impressive, scoring 401 runs in just seven innings at an average above 80.
The highlight came in August when Tribe hit back-to-back unbeaten hundreds in the One-Day Cup, including a superb 122* carrying his bat against Worcestershire and 131* versus Leicestershire. These match-winning innings underlined his consistency and composure, marking him as one of Glamorgan’s rising stars. His form was rewarded with a contract at the SA20, where he was picked up by Paarl Royals.
The Lions callups for Kellaway and Tribe are rightly being celebrated at the Club. The last Glamorgan player to be selected for England Lions was James Harris in 2012, who took a 6-fer at Edgbaston against Australia 'A' for the Young Lions having the likes of Joe Root, Ben Stokes and Eoin Morgan.
On our Young Lions' selection, Glamorgan Director of Cricket, Mark Wallace, said:
"It’s fantastic to have two Glamorgan players recognised for their form and future potential with selection for the Lions.
“They’re both real talents and the selections are just reward for the effort and dedication they’ve put in to their careers so far."
