Khawaja arrives in Wales

Usman Khawaja has arrived in Wales to link up with the Glamorgan squad as they prepare for their second block of Specsavers County Championship fixtures.

The Australian international had originally signed as the Welsh county's second overseas player for the Vitality Blast. But Khawaja has been drafted in earlier as cover for his compatriot Shaun Marsh, who has linked up with the Aussies ahead of their ODI series against England.

The star batsman has rushed over to join the squad and has been impressed with what he's seen of Glamorgan so far.

"Everyone has been so kind already", said Khawaja.

"The club and the people have been great so far. I haven't really gotten out yet to see Cardiff but I'll try and do that today and hopefully it'll be good fun."

Khawaja could feature for Glamorgan this weekend as the team travel to Edgbaston to face Warwickshire in the County Championship.

"I can play three of the four-day games before the T20 games so it'll be a nice way to find my feet and get into it. Hopefully I can contribute and score runs, I'm looking forward to meeting the guys and going out to play some cricket.

The big hitter will be available for 13 of Glamorgan's 14 Vitality Blast games and is targeting silverware with Glamorgan before linking up with Australia A ahead of their tour of India in September.

"I like to think I can bring a little bit of fun! Hopefully some fours and sixes and some wins. I'm looking forward to getting out there now and hopefully achieve some silverware with Glamorgan.

"From afar Glamorgan looked like they did well last year. I've seen a couple of games played here and the crowd look like they really get into it which is always nice to see. Hopefully there are some entertaining games, because that's what it's all about especially when you're played 20-over cricket."
