Head Coach Matt Maynard has named a 14-man squad for our LV= County Championship fixture against Durham.
The Welsh county face their northern counterparts in their second Championship bout of the summer at Sophia Gardens.
Maynard’s men put in a solid performance in the season opener against newly-promoted Gloucestershire, with hundreds from Billy Root and Kiran Carlson bookending a strong batting display.
Overseas stars Marnus Labuschagne and Michael Neser will return to action after missing the first game, with the Australians looking to add to their already impressive Glamorgan careers.
Labuschagne, the number one red-ball batter in the world, has scored 1719 runs at an average of 52 in his 21 games for Glamorgan, and will add to a formidable batting line-up for the Welsh County.
Neser will become the leader of the attack when he graces the Welsh turf, and has been a revelation since his signing, taking 60 wickets at an average of 21 with the ball.
Glamorgan sit seventh in the table after taking 12 points from their opening fixture, while Durham lie second after a late win against Worcestershire.
View from the camp – Marnus Labuschagne
"It is really nice to be back at my second home. It is my fourth year here and it’s always nice to come back. I have so many great memories, friendships, and relationships with people here.
“It is nice to be back out training! It has been four weeks since India. First few couple of hits on turf in about four weeks so it’s been nice.
“Like every time I come here, my focus is solely to win games for Glamorgan in any way I can.”
Head-to-head - Glamorgan vs Durham
After their eleven-day break, the Welsh county will be eager to get back into action following their draw with Gloucestershire a fortnight ago. For their part, Durham will be looking to continue their winning ways after they bounced back from a two-wicket defeat against Sussex in the opening batch of Championship games at Hove to defeat Worcestershire on Sunday afternoon at Chester-le-Street by 121 runs.
Glamorgan drew with Durham last summer at the Cardiff ground with Alex Lees carrying his bat for an unbeaten 182, whilst Colin Ingram made 87 and Chris Cooke an unbeaten 85. This had been Durham’s first Championship visit to Sophia Gardens since August 2018 when they completed an innings victory inside three days after a return of 5-28 by Chris Rushworth – now with Warwickshire - saw Glamorgan dismissed in their second innings for 111.
Durham beat Glamorgan by 58 runs last summer at Chester-le-Street, with the Welsh county’s most recent victory in a four-day contest between the two teams coming at Swansea in 2017 after an enterprising declaration by Paul Collingwood set Glamorgan a target of 266 from 51 overs on the final afternoon. Despite the loss of early wickets, a watchful century by Nick Selman saw Glamorgan to a three-wicket victory.
