Lancashire won the toss
Lunch Update
The Welsh county made one change to their line-up from their last four-day match that saw them lose to Gloucestershire at Swansea with David Lloyd returning in place of Aneurin Donald who is on duty with England U19. Lancashire also handed a first-class debut to eighteen year-old Haseeb Hameed with the Bolton-born opening batsman facing Glamorgan's regular new ball attack of Michael Hogan and Graham Wagg.
The youngster opened his account with a quick single before nonchalently clipping Hogan through mid-wicket for four, whilst Karl Brown began by cover-driving Wagg before surviving two loud appeals in successive balls for l.b.w to Hogan. But the light drizzle which had been falling then turned to steady rain as the umpires took the players off the field with Lancashire 16/0 after 7.3 overs.
A twenty minute delay then followed before play resumed in the overcast conditions as the floodlights also came on. But only fifteen dot balls were possible before another short shower caused a ten-minute break. When play resumed, Hameed cover-drove Hogan for four before Brown straight-drove Wagg for another boundary. David Lloyd and Craig Meschede then entered the attack with the latter being cover driven on three occasions by Brown for four .
Play was briefly halted half an hour after lunch
Afternoon update
After the stop-start session before lunch, Michael Hogan and David Lloyd resumed the bowling duties. Haseeb Hameed and Karl Brown continued to play watchfully as the floodlights were again switched on as the cloud cover increased. Brown clipped Lloyd to mid-wicket for four before Hameed cover drove Hogan for four, but the drizzle intensified into steady rain as the players for the fourth time left the field.
Play resumed twenty minutes later with five overs being lost before Andrew Salter entered the attack at the Pavilion End with Graham Wagg replacing Hogan at the Statham End. The latter duly ended Hameed's maiden innings in county cricket as he trapped the teenager l.b.w. in the 37
th over.
76/1 saw Alviro Petersen join Brown who continued his quiet accumulation by clipping Wagg through mid-wicket for four. Petersen struck his first boundary as he drilled Meschede through extra cover, followed next ball by a scythed four over the head of the slip cordon. Brown then drove Meschede through cover for another boundary before Petersen brought up the hundred with a cover driven four against Lloyd, followed by a pair of well-timed drives through backward point. Brown then completed his fifty from 124 balls before greeting the return of Salter's off-spin by drilling him through point for four. Petersen also drilled Lloyd through mid-on for four but with the total on 125 the South African drove Lloyd into the hands of Chris Cooke at short extra-cover.
Rain stopped play shortly after 5pm
Evening update
Resuming after tea on 126/2, Ashwell Prince cover drove Wagg for four before Karl Brown on-drove Michael Hogan for another boundary, but with the total on 142, Glamorgan secured their first bowling point as Prince pulled Wagg into the hands of Will Bragg at short mid-wicket. With Steven Croft as his new partner, Brown clipped Hogan to mid-wicket before Craig Meschede and David Lloyd briefly bowled in tandem, but the light drizzle then turned into steady rain as for the fifth time in the day the umpires left the field.
The rain soon intensified and play was called off for the day shortly before 6pm.
