Len Smith, the former Head Groundsman at Sophia Gardens has sadly died after a short illness.
Len was the Club’s Head Groundsman for over 20 years and during his tenure he painstakingly oversaw the relaying and improving of the pitches at Sophia Gardens. The fact that Glamorgan County Cricket Club now regularly host international cricket is a testament of his abilities and labours.
On hearing of Len’s passing, Dan Cherry, the Chief Executive Officer of Glamorgan Cricket said “Len was a larger than life character and will be warmly remembered by players, colleagues and supporters. As well as serving Glamorgan so loyally , Len also provided expert advice and support to many club grounds teams, leaving a strong legacy for pitch care throughout Wales. We send our sympathies to his family and wide circle of friends throughout the cricketing world."
