Lyon bullish on Aussie chances

After a tough day for his side, Australia off-spinner Nathan Lyon was in bullish mood, as he told the assembled media that he believed his side could chase the 412 required to sew up the First Ashes Test.
Lyon was perhaps the pick of the visiting attack, as he picked up four wickets in the second innings. However, he was treated to some harsh treatment from Moeen Ali and Mark Wood, as the two combined to put on 43 runs in less than 9 overs.

We've definitely still got a good chance in this game, we know that if we bat 2 days we will win the game. We need to learn from our mistakes in the first innings. If we are more hungry at the crease, and turn those thirties into hundreds we will win this match, Lyon said.

This Test match has produced some thrilling cricket and we are now in for the prospect of an equally absorbing fourth day at The SSE SWALEC.

Commenting on the state of the Cardiff pitch, Lyon said: it's a pretty good wicket and there are no big footmarks for the spinners to bowl into, I certainly don't see too many demons out there.

Australia were skittled by England in the morning session, losing their final 4 wickets for just 44 runs.

As bowlers, we pride ourselves on being able to make the tail wag - unfortunately things didn't go to plan today. Hopefully, when we get the next opportunity we will put a few partnerships together, Lyon said.

We are not at all surprised by England's talent, we were fully aware they had world class players. The Ashes is one of the hardest series you'll ever play, and we knew how good England would be.

Lyon finished by reaffirming his belief in his side's ability ahead of possibly series defining day tomorrow, records are made to be broken.
