Mark O'Leary Appointed as Glamorgan Men's Assistant Coach

Glamorgan County Cricket Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Mark O’Leary as Assistant Coach.

A familiar face at Sophia Gardens, O’Leary has worked within the Male and Female Pathway and at professional level at the club in recent years and joins with a wealth of coaching experience, most notably with Welsh Fire Women, Western Storm and Cardiff MCC University (now Cardiff University Centre of Cricketing Excellence).

In 2018, O’Leary was named Coach of the Year by the England & Wales Cricket Board as a recognition of his contribution to the game for over two decades and he continues to work for the ECB in their Coach Development system.

Born in Panteg, O’Leary played club cricket for Sudbrook Cricket Club in Caldicot, Wales Minor Counties and 2nd team for both Glamorgan and Somerset.

O’Leary will largely take responsibility for the second team this season alongside other coaching at the club. Steve Watkin will focus more of his attention on the Glamorgan Pathway and developing coaching and support for players in West and North Wales., continuing his stay at the Home of Welsh Cricket to over 40 years.

Mark is an excellent coach who has done a lot of work for us in recent years and is ideally positioned from a knowledge and skill set perspective to spend more time with us and help develop our players to the best of their potential.”
