Mark Wallace Hails Chris Cooke's International Potential

17 May 2015 | Cricket
Glamorgan wicket keeper Mark Wallace believes Chris Cooke showed hallmarks worthy of comparison to leading international bastmen throughout his destructive 17-ball 46 against Surrey.
Cooke took advantage of the platform provided by Jacques Rudolph and Colin Ingram to play with flair and freedom in steering Glamorgan to what proved to be a winning total of 240/3.

Chris Cooke has got genuine international pedigree and if plays like that on stages like this often enough then he won't be too far away, said Wallace.

Neutrals might have perceived us to be underdogs but we've never lost a T20 at the Oval. We like to quietly back ourselves and sometimes we don't get the plaudits we deserve but that's fine by me.

Zafar Ansari and Steven Davies kept Surrey in the hunt but four wickets for Dean Cosker disrupted their spirited fightback and allowed Glamorgan to make the trip back to Wales with two points and an imposing net run rate in the bag.

This result just shows that you need a lot of runs in t20 cricket and it shows the talent that we've got in our side to post scores like that, said Wallace.

You never really know if your total is enough and Davies and Ansari put a little bit of doubt in our minds. The Surrey crowd put us under a lot of pressure and there was some noise out there.

We want to create a real atmosphere in Cardiff and get the Wales versus England thing going on. We're all in a good frame of mind and looking forward to next week.

Glamorgan will look to continue their winning start when they face Essex at The SWALEC Stadium on Friday at 6.30pm. Book tickets in advance and save, with adult tickets just £15 here.
