Marnus returns for Nottinghamshire clash

13 Apr 2022 | Cricket

Head coach Matt Maynard has named a 13-man squad for our LV= County Championship match against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge tomorrow.

There are two changes to the squad as wicket-keeper batsman Tom Cullen drops out and World no. 1 ranked men’s Test batter Marnus Labuschagne replaces Colin Ingram as our second overseas player having returned from Australia’s tour of Pakistan. Ingram deputised for Labuschagne against Durham and struck 87 in the first innings.

All-rounder Andrew Salter will continue to open the batting with David Lloyd while Eddie Byrom continues to recover from minor surgery. Salter took a career-best 7/45 last week against Durham – the best figures for a Glamorgan spinner since Robert Croft in 1992.

Glamorgan enter the fixture after drawing their opening game against Durham where they picked up 11 points, while Nottinghamshire sit on top of Division Two having earned 23 points from their victory over Sussex.

View from the camp – Head coach Matt Maynard

It’s a very tough start to the season for us, Notts have found a winning way over the last couple of seasons, and they’ll be happy with the start to the campaign having pulled off a good victory over Sussex, but we look forward to the challenge.

It’s tough for Colin Ingram who’s done a lot of preparation for the campaign and showed in the first innings what a class player he is.

We’re fortunate we have the number one Test batsman in the world, we look forward to having him and Michael Neser hopefully fit for Trent Bridge as well.

As a management team, we’ve got a tough decision on what eleven to put out because all our four main seamers bowled well as well as Andrew Salter, who won’t miss out because he’s opening the batting.

Head-to-head – Nottinghamshire v Glamorgan

Glamorgan return on Thursday to Trent Bridge for their first Championship match on Nottinghamshire soil since 2007.

The two teams last met in the LV+ Insurance County Championship in 2017 at Sophia Gardens when a superb stand of 226 for the sixth wicket by Colin Ingram and Chris Cooke helped Glamorgan save the game after the Welsh county had been forced to follow-on by the visitors.
