Head coach Matt Maynard has named a 13-man squad for Glamorgan’s opening Vitality Blast fixture against local rivals Somerset tomorrow night at Sophia Gardens.
The squad features the return of Vitality Blast captain Colin Ingram, who returns to Wales following successful stints in the IPL, Big Bash and PSL this winter.
Batsmen Kiran Carlson and Jeremy Lawlor are both included in the squad after missing out in the latest rounds of the Specsavers County Championship, while there are also places for all-rounders Owen Morgan and Andrew Salter.
Salter will make his first white-ball appearance of the season if selected, while Lawlor and Morgan will make their T20 debuts for the Welsh county if selected in the final XI. The pair have been in good form recently for the seconds, with Morgan taking 2/26 and 2/7 and Lawlor striking 59* in their recent T20 fixtures against Gloucestershire at Llandaff Cathedral School earlier this week.
Unfortunately, new overseas signing, Fakhar Zaman is unavailable for the fixture due to ongoing Visa issues.
Colin Ingram returned from South Africa last week after a winter playing T20 cricket around the world, but is delighted to be back in Wales and hopes to use his experiences to Glamorgan’s benefit this summer.
“This is my cricket home and where my family hope to settle permanently in the future.” Ingram remarked.
“We regard Cardiff as our second home, and it has everything you could wish for to bring up a small family”.
“I have learnt a lot about captaincy, and what I’ve learnt can be put into practice at Glamorgan. They may be little things but if it means the difference between winning and losing games, then it would have been worth it.
“I am now back on familiar territory, and with all the experience I’ve gained in tournaments around the world I am hoping that can help the players and I am sure we can all enjoy a successful T20 tournament”.
Ingram was also excited to re-join the squad which sees some new faces in the dressing room from last season, and is looking forward to seeing what they can do on the field this summer.
“There have been additions to the squad this season and that can only mean more competition for places,” said Ingram
“The players will push themselves harder and create a new impact. Billy Root for instance, is a proven one-day specialist, and someone you can move up and down the order."
Glamorgan squad to face Somerset: Ingram*, Cooke+, Lloyd, Lawlor, Morgan, Root, Carlson, Douthwaite, Wagg, Hogan, Salter, de Lange and Carey.
