Gloucestershire starlet George Hankins admitted he was left with bittersweet feelings after hitting his maiden County Championship fifty against Glamorgan.
Hankins struck a quick-fire half-century to propel Gloucestershire to 262 all out, with the 19-year-old top scoring with 56, but the home side's lead is just 180 with nine Glamorgan wickets remaining.
Hankins said: "It was nice to get to 50 and I suppose it is a weight off my mind to get my first 50.
"I would have been nice to have gone on and got three figures, but I am pleased with the way I played.
After impressing in the Gloucestershire academy and Second XI, Hankins admitted it was a step up against Glamorgan today, as the visiting bowlers dominated early on, before a lower order revivial brought Gloucestershire back in the game.
Hankins added: "It's certainly a step up from second team cricket, but getting some runs will give me confidence. Hopefully we can get a few wickets tomorrow and then when it comes to our second innings, I can get a few more runs.
"It was a pretty tough position when I went in, but it was nice to have Hamish Marshall at the other end."
Glamorgan batsmen Will Bragg and Jacques Rudolph will resume the visitors' innings on 82/1 tomorrow morning, with Hankins eyeing a couple of early wickets to swing the game back towards the hosts.
He added: "We would liked to have got some more runs, but it didnt happen and we now need to fight tomorrow to make sure we bowl well."
