A new cross-curricular key stage two resource linked to the ICC Champions Trophy matches hosted in Cardiff this June has been developed by Glamorgan Cricket and Cricket Wales.

A new cross-curricular key stage two resource has been developed by Glamorgan Cricket and Cricket Wales which is linked to the ICC Champions Trophy matches and semi-final being hosted in Cardiff during June 2017.

The resource is free of charge and is available to access via the Welsh Government’ Digital Learning platform HWB.

With 1,313 Primary Schools in Wales, the resource has the potential to engage 136,890 Welsh pupils enrolled at key stage two. You can download an example of the Cardiff 2017 Welsh Cricket Resource here. The resource aims to:

  • Allow children to engage with the ICC Tournament in Wales
  • Capture and inspire our 7-11 year old’s
  • Drive the cross-cutting themes of literacy, numeracy, and digital competency via a series of fun and exciting learning challenges.

“We as a school are delighted that a new cross-curricular key stage two resource has been developed by Glamorgan Cricket and Cricket Wales which is linked to the ICC Champions Trophy matches," said Adam Raymond Pencoed Primary School

"Our teaching staff now has a ready-made teaching resource that they can pick up and use in their classrooms.  This is very useful especially with staff having very busy schedules.”

“Our pupils have already had the opportunity to visit the home of Glamorgan CCC and they have gained valuable experience and knowledge of the game.  A major tournament inspires a future generation and this resource will enhance pupils understanding of this great sport.

"We are lucky enough to be attending the New Zealand v Bangladesh group match and 75 pupils will be able to see what they have learned in a real life context."

Twenty four rich learning tasks have been created in six areas; these include: numeracy, science and digital competency, history and geography, art and technology, PE, health and wellbeing, and literacy.

Visitor numbers from schools have quadrupled in recent years and this resource complements the experience of a visit to Glamorgan's headquarters with a set of learning resources which can be used either before or after a visit. The material can also be used in conjunction with Cricket Wales’ schools outreach programme inspiring teachers and schools to play cricket. Alongside these approaches is All Stars Cricket, helping children aged five to eight with a great first experience in cricket.
