Rain has delayed the start
Morning update
Today the Queen is visiting Sheffield to distribute Maundy money, whilst the country's cricketers commence their first-class season with an opening round of three-day games against the teams of student players from the consortium of higher education centres which comprise the MCC University set-up.
But whilst the distribution by the Queen of the Royal Maundy to 89 men and women will take place in South Yorkshire irrespective of the elements, the weather gods have been far less charitable at other grounds across Her Majesty's realm with the start of the domestic season being put on hold at the SWALEC Stadium and elsewhere after rain for many hours .
Precipitation overnight and throughout the morning thwarted a prompt start at 11am at Glamorgan's headquarters in the Welsh capital, and it was a formality that an hour before the scheduled start, the two umpires - Jeff Evans and Russell Warren - decided that the start would be delayed. No play was possible before lunch with a further inspection taking place at 1.30pm.
This delay means that Mark Wallace will have to wait a little bit longer before passing another major career milestone. The Club's vice-captain enters this match with a career aggregate in all first-class cricket of 9,968 runs (which includes a tally of 9,861 runs for the Welsh county). When Mark scores a further 32 runs, he will duly pass the career landmark of 10,000 runs in all first-class cricket.
Play was called off for the day shortly after 3pm
Afternoon update
Light rain and drizzle continued to fall after lunch, and after the umpires made a further inspection at 3pm, with conditions still not having improved, play was abandoned for the day.
