Glamorgan travel to Northampton for their penultimate match in the LV=County Championship as they meet the Easy Midlands side in the four-day contest scheduled to start at the Wantage Road ground at 10.30 a.m. on Monday, September 14th .
Despite yesterday's defeat by 316 runs against Kent at the SSE SWALEC in their last home game this season in the LV=County Championship, Glamorgan move back into fourth place in the Division Two table, with the Welsh county level on points with Northamptonshire but ahead of them by virtue of more victories..
Glamorgan's last visit to Northamptonshire in 2013 ended in defeat as the home side completed an emphatic by an innings and 25 runs in a contest which helped to clinch a promotion spot for the East Midlands side. However, Northamptonshire experienced a torrid time during 2014 in Division One of the LV=County Championship, and after a series of defeats they were relegated.
Glamorgan can look back more fondly on their visit in 2012 to Northampton when they won by three wickets, thanks to a composed innings by Jim Allenby, plus a breezy knock by John Glover, which saw the Welsh county home in a rain-affected contest as they successfully chased a stiff target of 351 on the final day of the contest
It was also Glamorgan's first Championship success at Northampton since 2003 and ended a sequence of four heavy defeats in their previous six visits to the East Midlands ground, with Northamptonshire having won by 168 runs in 2006, by ten wickets in both 2007and 2010 and by an innings and 77 runs in 2011.
The two sides have already met each other this year in Championship cricket with the contest at the SWALEC Stadium back in May when a century from Craig Meschede and a probing performance by the home bowlers forced Northamptonshire to follow-on, before Glamorgan wrapped up a comprehensive victory by ten wickets.
