After their stirring two-wicket victory over Warwickshire at Sophia Gardens, Glamorgan head to Northampton on Sunday, 25 July for their next game in the Royal London One-Day Cup with the contest scheduled to start at 1100am.
This will be the first time for a dozen years that Glamorgan have met the East Midlands side in List A cricket, with the two teams having met in a 50 and 40 over contest at Northampton and Colwyn Bay respectively during 2009, whilst their 50 over contest at Swansea being washed out. As the list below shows of the last six meetings of the teams in List A cricket, the Welsh county lost both of these matches during 2009:
4 Sept 2005 at Sophia Gardens - Match Abandoned
6 Sept 2006 at Sophia Gardens – Northamptonshire won by eight wickets
25 Aug 2008 at Northampton – Glamorgan won by 12 runs
4 May 2009 at Northampton – Northamptonshire won by 35 runs
19 May 2009 at Swansea - Match Abandoned
9 Aug 2009 at Colwyn Bay – Northamptonshire won by 6 runs
Glamorgan’s last victory in List A cricket against the East Midlands side came at Northampton during August 2008 when the Welsh county won a 40-over contest after Tom Maynard had struck a forthright 46, before some probing bowling by James Harris, Alex Wharf and Dean Cosker contained the home batsmen.
In all, Glamorgan have met Northamptonshire 48 times in List A cricket, with the Welsh county winning on 28 occasions and losing 18 times. Amongst the highlights have been Glamorgan’s total of 266-6 in the televised contest at Wellingborough School in 1975 when Majid Khan struck a remarkable 22-ball fifty as well as the match during 2004 when Matthew Maynard blasted 117 at Northampton.
