Our bowlers are putting in really strong efforts - Balbirnie

Glamorgan suffered a third-straight defeat as Northants came up trumps at Edgbaston by four wickets, despite 58 from overseas player Andrew Balbirnie.

The Ireland captain recorded his first half-century for Glamorgan, but admitted that the side still needed to improve on their batting totals.

"It was a good contest. We've been scrapping all tournament with relatively under-par totals, and there's no reason why we can't get that first part right and go on a bit of a run.

"Our bowlers are really putting in a strong effort and it's up to us as batters to make use of the starts that we get. Today was a good start but we were unable to get that big total.

"160 was under-par, but when you've got that on the board in a T20 game you're always in the game and we got it down to the last over."

Balbirnie's first half-century for Glamorgan came off 33 balls, and Balbirnie believed that a score was always around the corner but that runs don't mean as much in a loss.

"I felt good. I haven't felt out of touch, I've just found myself getting out having got relatively good starts.

"Today was a nice to occupy the crease a bit while scoring at a decent rate, it's a shame I couldn't kick on into another gear and get a bigger total.

"When you score runs in these games it almost doesn't matter, but it's nice to get going."
