Over 3k children signed up for T20 schools offer

Over 50 schools and 3,000 pupils have signed up for Glamorgan's free ticket offer to schools to attend selected Vitality Blast matches next season at Sophia Gardens.

The initiative was first run last year when over 4,500 pupils attended Glamorgan's two Tuesday night Vitality Blast matches. In 2023 the Club is hoping to increase that number and grow the game across Wales, with the offer now available across three T20 fixtures.

Vitality Blast fixtures:

Wednesday, 7 June – Glamorgan v Surrey Cricket
Wednesday, 21 June – Glamorgan v Somerset
Friday, 23 June – Glamorgan v Sussex Sharks

“We have been delighted by the response to our schools offer,” said Andrew Hignell, the Club’s Heritage and Education Co-ordinator.

“Within ten days of the offer going live, we have already received orders for a total of 3014 tickets for the matches on 7, 21 and 23 June, with many other schools saying that they will confirm their order early in the New Year.

"So far, 53 schools from across South, West and East Wales have been in contact including many from Cardiff, Newport, Swansea, Bridgend, Caerphilly and the Vale of Glamorgan, as well as several from RCT, Torfaen, Pontypridd, Merthyr Tydfil, Brecon, Carmarthen, and Haverfordwest.

“There was a brilliant atmosphere at our schools days during two of Glamorgan’s home T20 matches in 2022 at Sophia Gardens. Given this outstanding response so far to the offer for three games at Cardiff in 2023, it looks like we will have another Midsummer’s Night Dream and hope that the Glamorgan batters, especially Sam Northeast and David Lloyd, can thrill the young audience with their audacious strokeplay as they did in last year’s game against Middlesex when they added 150 for the first wicket.”

Please note: This needs to be a supervised official school trip. To reserve your tickets, email schools@glamorgancricket.co.uk giving the name of your school, a designated point of contact, the likely age range of the group and the number of children/accompanying adults.
