Pantmawr CC Glamorgan Indoor League Indoor Champions 2015

9 Oct 2015 | Cricket
Pantmawr were the victors last night as the annual Glamorgan Senior Indoor League finals were held at The SSE SWALEC.
In the first semi-final, Lisvane CC took on last year's beaten finalists Cardiff Gymkhana CC. In the second semi-final we had last years winners Pentyrch CC taking on Pantmawr CC.

Gymkhana batted pretty well and made 105 off their 10 overs. With indoor rules and adjustment to the indoor scoring system, this was probably fractionally above par.

In the chase, Lisvane were 66 - 1 off 5 overs, and very much in the driving seat, but collapsed to lose their last 5 wickets for 33 runs, leaving the winners of the first semi as Cardiff Gymkhana CC by 6 runs.

In the second semi-final, Pantmawr CC batted first and with some excellent bowling from last year's winners, Pantmawr were restricted to just 68 all out, a low score in indoor cricket, so Pentyrch were favourites at the change of innings.

However, with what only can be described by an outstanding fielding and bowling performance, Pantmawr came racing out of the blocks and put Pentyrch under pressure in the field, but especially with the ball. In a thrilling finish, Pantmawr claimed the last Pentyrch wicket, with the latter still 8 runs short of their target to set up a final against Cardiff Gymkhana CC.

Gymkhana were asked to bat first in the final and Pantmawr carried on where they left off against Pentyrch with some excellent bowling. Gymkhana found themselves in real problems at 62-5, but with the 'Last Man Stands' rule in place, their last batsman managed to see out the remaining bowling and reach 97 - 5 off their 10 overs to set up a competitive run chase.

Pantmawr started excellently reaching 25 in the first two overs, but with the loss of one wicket. In the end it did not matter, with two batters reaching the retiring mark of 25 runs, they reached their total comfortably with 9 balls to spare, leaving the 2015 Glamorgan indoor League Indoor Champions as Pantmawr CC.

Pantmawr now qualify for the Welsh finals, which take place in late January, featuring the regional winners from across the country. Winners from that event, can go all the way to the Lord's final day.

All four teams who reached finals night, received a voucher for 10 complementary tickets to a home Glamorgan Natwest T20 Blast fixture of their choosing.

Glamorgan Cricket would like to thank all teams who participated in the 2015 Indoor League, and wishes them all to winter well and look forward to welcoming them for the start of the new indoor season in January 2016.
