Pentrych emerge as indoors winners

After a long and hard fought 2014 indoor cricket league, Pentrych Cricket Club regained the trophy they last won in 2011. Following on from the league stage, Pentrych were joined by Dinas Powys, Pantmawr and last year's runners up Cardiff Gymkhana in the play offs.
In game 1, Dinas faced off against a strong Gymkhana side. Batting first, the Dinas batsmen could only muster 57 from their 10 overs, largely thanks to an unbeaten 14 from Andy Ford. In reply, Gymkhana eased to victory with 3 overs remaining, Maj being the pick of the batsman with a quick fire 17.

Game 2 saw Pentrych battle with Pantmawr in what proved to be a see-saw match. Batting first, Pentrych lost Greg Holmes, run out for 6. Jack Thorpe-Yon looked in control before being caught for 20 and starting a Pentrych wobble. With an under par score looking likely, Dom Grossett attacked his way to a quick fire 30, including 18 off the last over as Pentrych finished on 82. The Pantmawr reply got off to steady start with both openers reaching double figures. However, the run out of Bishop (20) turned the game in favour of Pentrych as the runs dried up and pressure built. Despite the best efforts of Hay (29), Pantmawr fell 10 runs short of their target.

After a quick break for drinks and repairs the final saw Pentrych take on Gymkhana. Once again Pentrych batted first although this time they found things easier despite good bowling by Usman, with both openers reaching double figures. However, the run out of Thorpe-Yon (20) again saw a wobble and it was left to the Grossett brothers to rebuild. Mike was more circumspect in reaching 15 before he was run out whereas Dom, fresh from his semi-final exploits was far freer in reaching 17 before a one scoop shot too many saw him caught off the back wall. A final over flurry saw Pentrych set the Gymkhana boys 92 to win the cup.

In truth, their reply never really got going as tight bowling from Pentrych meant pressure was applied from the first ball. Abhas hit a quick fire 13 which along with the 12 scored by Ashish the only scores of note. A series of run outs and catches saw Gymkhana slump to 41 all out from only 7 overs, leaving Pentrych worthy winners by 51 runs.
