PITCH PARFITT FOR GEORGIA

25 Apr 2025 | Cricket

Following last Saturday’s Metro Bank One-Day Cup win over Sussex, Glamorgan Wicket Keeper, Georgia Parfitt feels like the right kind of pressure is now on her team.

And with high performing Middlesex crossing the bridge to face Glamorgan at Newport Cricket Club at 10:30am on Sunday, the key internal requirement is to maintain standards, discipline and momentum.

“I knew we were switched on from ball one, so after we set foot on the field and had that first over, I knew we were in the game and had a good chance of winning,” Georgia told us. “

You could tell from everyone’s attitude in training, during the rain delay and then when we finally stepped out on the pitch. The whole camp was fully prepared and supportive of each other.

“Momentum is important for us. It’s something that we spoke about before going out on the pitch with Gam [Beth Gammon] during the team talk. We know that now we’ve done it, we’ve set the bar high. The job now is to work hard to maintain the standards we’ve set ourselves.”

Meanwhile, Club Captain and big sister, Lauren Parfitt sadly missed the opening game – and is continuing her recovery this weekend with the hope of returning to action soon. But as expected, she was a leading voice last weekend and is rightly proud to finally see the dream of a Glamorgan Women’s team become an overdue reality.

“I was immensely proud to watch the girls from the sidelines,” she said. “I cheered every wicket, appealed for runouts from the side, which I probably shouldn’t have done. But look, they gave everything and that’s all we ask of the group of girls. We said, ‘Go out and show what you’re made of’, which everyone did. I’m really proud.

“For where we are now, it’s something that even a year ago, we never actually thought it would really happen. So, it’s really exciting to get to where we are now and have people coming through the door to support us.

“I’m still out of contention right now, but I hope to be back out there as soon as possible. Hopefully it’s a short-term thing, but I want to be back on the field as soon as I can.”
