Friday night in Cardiff will see Glamorgan reacquainted with a Surrey side they demolished by eight-wickets at the outset of the NatWest T20 Blast campaign in May.
The game also pits the South Group’s first-placed side (Glamorgan) against second-placed Surrey and a win for the Welsh county would be a mighty stepping stone towards the quarter-finals.
It’s Dale Steyn’s last game in a Glamorgan shirt before he jets off to the Caribbean Premier League and with the likes of Dwayne Bravo, Kumar Sangakkara and Ravi Rampaul in the opposition ranks, it promises to be another mouth-watering encounter.
Steyn will make his final bow in front of the Cardiff crowd, while his opening partner Timm van der Gugten will be hoping to continue where he left off at The Kia Oval on Thursday May 26.
That night saw the Dutchman announce himself to the country with 4/14 from his fours overs in front of 20,000 Londoners and the Sky Sports cameras.
Van der Gugten admitted being hugely excited for the match when he was interviewed this week. He said: “It’s a really important game, Surrey are a very dangerous team and we were lucky enough to beat them on their own ground.
“We’re trying to make the SWALEC a bit of a fortress so hopefully we can get on top of them again and stay on the top of the table.”
“There was a bit of luck that night (at The Oval) for me and we’ve all been bowling pretty well. It will be a good to send off to Dale as well.
“Surrey have got a great team but if we can play like we’ve been playing in the T20 and One-Day competitions so far, we’ll be able to compete with them and hopefully come away with the two points.”
Glamorgan are also likely to welcome back master-blaster Colin Ingram to their side after the South African was rested for the four-day match against Kent this week, while experienced left-arm spinner Dean Cosker could also make a return.
Welsh opener David Lloyd will be hoping to continue in his rich vein of form in T20 cricket, after smacking an astonishing 97 not out in Glamorgan’s stunning win last Friday night over Kent Spitfires.
Surrey are sitting second in the South Group, but will be without England ODI opener Jason Roy, though Bravo and Sangakkara will be major threats to Glamorgan’s ambitions of staying at the summit.
