Glamorgan went down to a second defeat in the Royal London One Day Cup yesterday at Hove, despite the best efforts of the wicketkeeper-batsman Chris Cooke.
Skipper Jacques Rudolph, on the ground where he compiled his List A best 169 not out in 2014, made his third half-century in this season's competition and all the time he was at the crease Glamorgan had a chance.
But apart from the fourth-wicket stand of 72 the South African left-hander shared with Kiran Carlson, Glamorgan struggled to build partnerships and they were kept in check by some accurate bowling.
Glamorgan were 138 for six when rain forced the players off, and after a 50-minute delay they needed an improbable 143 in 11.5 overs under Duckworth-Lewis.
Chris Cooke top scored for the Welsh county smashing three sixes in his 62 from 47 balls but an asking rate of nearly 12 runs an over proved too much.
"It was a disappointing day for us," commented Cooke after the match, "but it was nice from a personal point of view to get some runs and really get my season going with the bat."
"Credit to Sussex, they batted well and had the best of the conditions. We never really got partnerships going but we’ve got another opportunity on Friday when we play Somerset to put things right."
Glamorgan face in form Somerset on Friday who have won three from three so far in the South pool of the competition.
