Q&A with Jacques Rudolph

31 Mar 2017 | Cricket
On Wednesday, Glamorgan captain Jacques Rudolph registered the 50th first-class hundred of his illustrious career in a match against Cardiff MCCU at The SSE SWALEC. After the game he spoke about that moment and reflected on his long career.

How does it feel to have made your 50th First-Class hundred?

It is obviously very special to me; it is bit of a monkey off my back if I’m being honest because it is something that I wanted to achieve for a very long time! Yesterday was extremely special to me, even though it wasn’t an official Championship game it was still really nice to be out in the middle trying to get some early form before the start of the season.

What has been your favourite moment at Glamorgan, both personally and in regards to the team?

From a personal point of view I scored 169 against Sussex two years ago, it was potentially one of my favourite knocks playing for Glamorgan. And then from a team perspective, it was two years ago when we won four games in a row and I haven’t been in many teams who have been able to do that so that was obviously very special.

What’s been the favourite innings of your career?

In my Test career one of my favourite innings has to be against Australia in 2005 where I was 102 not out, I managed to bat out the last day which was quite special considering the game situation and the game pressure and we actually managed to get out of that game with a draw.

Who is the toughest bowler you have faced?

One of the most difficult bowlers has to be Andrew Flintoff, he was always bowling quickly and delivering to a left-hander he came around the wicket to create angles and yet he still had the ability to take the ball away from them so he drew you into a lot of shots that potentially you didn’t need to play. Also Glenn McGrath from Australia, his stats speak for themselves, he would always bowl the ball in one very good area and was quick enough as well.

How did you feel making your Test debut?

It was obviously very special to me, however there was some politics behind my two previous attempts at making my Test debut. But having said that, scoring a double century on my debut was very special and something I am very proud of.
