Q&A with Glamorgan head coach Toby Radford on new signing Wayne Parnell who will join the Welsh county for this year's NatWest T20 Blast.
Toby, what does Wayne Parnell bring to the squad for T20 Blast this year?
Wayne brings a couple of things to Glamorgan, firstly international experience, and we know he has pace, I've seen him bowl very quick spells as a left arm bowler and I think he can add some power with the bat lower down the order.
He's got good experience of T20, playing for South Africa, in county cricket and in the IPL, how does he complement the existing resources in our squad?
On the field it gives us two good left arm bowlers, as Graham Wagg is a big part of our one day side as well.
I always believe in T20 cricket you have players capable of clearing the ropes in the lower and middle-lower of the order and that's something he has got in his game and I think in the dressing room whenever you bring international players in, they've got a lot to offer in terms of helping the younger players, so he can supplement what the likes of Jacques and Colin are already bringing in there too.
I think it makes us a very well balanced side with lots of experience and that's massive.
How important is it that new players fit into the dressing room culture?
A lot of where we are now is about having a good culture in the dressing room, a real team working together and for each other, which we want in the dressing room and on the field. We feel we are in a good place with that.
Colin Ingram and Jacques Rudolph have played with Wayne and know him well and they believe he will fit into this culture we've got and they see him as a huge addition. From a cricket side I see him as a big player for us too.
Was his availability a key factor in the recruitment process?
Last year we were just one run away from Finals day so we know as a squad and as a team we play well in this format and Wayne will add to that as well.
One of the big things is continuity in T20 and he will bring that through his availability and playing right the way through the tournament, which is what we didn't have last year with Darren Sammy. Sammy was here for 5 or 6 games and I think it's an advantage if you do have someone for a long period as that allows you to pretty much put the same team out on the field.
