Andrew Salter top scored with 59, as Glamorgan were bowled out for 207 on day one of their Specsavers County Championship match against Northants.

The Welsh county were struggling at 102/6, before Salter added 97 with fellow all-rounder Craig Meschede to get Glamorgan back on track.

“I think me and Craig just wanted to take it ball by ball out there because it was quite tricky,” said Salter.

“We were happy with that partnership to a certain extent but obviously we would have liked to go on and made it to 100. It was tricky in patches but we just tried to battle through.

“There was a bit in [the wicket]. It was quite slow. It did enough for the bowlers if they bowled in good areas. There were some tricky patches there we had a bit of luck but we just battled through and got myself there towards the end.

“It’s tough to score if you bowl well. They showed that through some of their spells. Fingers crossed we can do the same tomorrow. With the light getting darker out there, it was getting tricky for the batsmen so it would have been nice to pinch one before we finished. We’ve just got to start strong tomorrow morning.”
