Rudolph Reflects on Gloucestershire Defeat

24 Jul 2015 | Cricket
After defeat tonight against Gloucestershire to finish their NatWest T20 Blast campaign, Glamorgan captain Jacques Rudolph reflected on the defeat and looked ahead to the start of the Royal London One-Day Cup 50-over tournament which starts this weekend.
It was really disappointing, said Jacques Rudolph, Gloucestershire outplayed us tonight and unfortunately we're out but I thought we had a fairly decent competition overall. Having said that, we've got a few lessons we can learn.

I think if we had Wayne for longer it would have made a big difference. It would have nice to have had him available. In the first six overs of the innings you have to be on top of your game and if you're not, it's very difficult to gather momentum from there. Going into next season that's an area we need to address and become better at.

Glamorgan's Graham Wagg promoted up the order to open the batting tonight, due to his fine form this season and clean striking of the ball, was unable to make the impact he would have wanted with the bat and left the field injured after twice being struck on the helmet.

Waggy has been one of our best ball strikers this season so we decided to put him in at the top of the order. Unfortunately it's not always going to work out for you and he'll be disappointed but it's not always going to work out for you and you can't blame him for that.

He seems to be OK. We'll make a decision tomorrow to see if he's fit to play on Sunday.

With Wagg a doubt for Sunday's opening Royal London One Day Cup match against Notts Outlaws, Rudolph admitted they would need to sit down and discuss options ahead of the tournament opener.

The format has changed a little bit so we'll have to sit down and have a bit of a chat about how we're going to do things. I think we've got the players to do the job for us.

Unfortunately we start with minus two points but we'll give it a good crack for the first four or five games and see where we're at. If we're not up there then it opens up the competition for a couple of younger players.

You have to win your first few games to stand out depending on other results. We've got a good group of senior players. Colin Ingram's best stats are in the one day game, his best form is in the one day game and he could be a real match winner for us.
