Glamorgan Cricket is pleased to announce the signing of New Zealand batsman Hamish Rutherford as our overseas signing for the Royal London Cup and final four LV= Insurance County Championship matches of the season.
The 32-year-old will replace Marnus Labuschagne who returns home to Australia at the end of the Vitality Blast to prepare for the Australian Season.
Rutherford is a highly experienced cricketer with 28 appearances for his country across all formats, while he has also played domestic cricket in England and Wales for both Worcestershire and Essex.
He has a strong List A record with 3,456 runs at an average of nearly 37 and a strike rate of 96.5 and has hit 12 centuries in just 98 matches.
In first-class cricket, Rutherford is just shy of 7,000 runs at an average over 36 with 15 hundreds.
Director of cricket, Mark Wallace, said: “Marnus leaving is obviously a loss but to replace him with someone the calibre of Hamish is a massive bonus for the club.
“He has a proven track record of scoring runs in both first-class and List A cricket over here and is the right character to have in the dressing room for our younger players to learn from.”
On signing for Glamorgan, Rutherford, said: “I’m really looking forward to joining up with Glamorgan for the remainder of the season.
"I’ve been fortunate to play lots of county cricket and always enjoy the challenge - hopefully I can use my experience to help some of the younger players in the squad.
"To be able to come over and get stuck into a comp where all teams are starting afresh is also exciting. Hopefully we can get going in the 50 over comp and carry some momentum into the final phase of first-class cricket.”
