Nick Selman admitted he was enjoying opportunities in the Glamorgan first-team after striking an unbeaten 79 on Day Two of the Welsh county\'s Specsavers County Championship match versus Northamptonshire.
Selman steered Glamorgan to 139/5 at St Helen's in reply to Northants' 321 all out after the visitors dominated the second day.
Rory Kleinvedlt struck a brisk 91 off 88 balls and Saif Zaib hit 65 not out. Glamorgan then lost Will Bragg, Jacques Rudolph, Aneurin Donald and David Lloyd cheaply, before Selman and Andrew Salter guided them to the close without further loss.
The Australian-born batsman, speaking to the media at the end of the day, admitted it was good to take on extra responsibility opening the batting. Selman has now scored three fifties in as many games since coming into the first-team.
He said: "It's been going well (in the first team), I haven't converted fifties into a big score but hopefully I can do that, kick on and make a good score for the team.
"It's been great to sign on (a three-year contract), the coaching staff and the club are magnificent and it was an easy decision to commit my future."
In helping bowling conditions at Swansea, Ben Sanderson took 2/40 while there were three wickets for Northants' seamer Muhammad Azharullah.
"Early on it definitely did a bit in overcast conditions, we got through the first 20 overs and then we lost a few wickets with some poor shots and some good deliveries," Selman added.
"Both sides are in it but we're five down so the morning's crucial, if we can get through the first 20 overs we'll be in a good position to take the game forward."
Glamorgan's first innings resumes this morning on 139/5 at St Helen's Swansea with Selman 79* and Salter 24*.
