Head Coach Robert Croft has named a 12-man squad for his side’s Specavers County Championship clash against Derbyshire with Jacques Rudolph, Colin Ingram, Chris Cooke and Marchant de Lange all returning for Glamorgan.
The players were rested for Glamorgan’s narrow loss to Sussex with NatWest T20 Blast Finals Day just two days after the fixture’s scheduled finish.
The squad includes six players aged 24 or under and with senior players back Croft believes his squad boasts a good mixture of youth and experience which will help the development of younger members of the side as the season draws to a close.
“It’s not realistic for us to go up so we want to blood younger players because we need to find where they are right now and give them experience for the future,” said Croft.
“Equally you need a balance and have enough experience around them. The way the team fought against Sussex at Colwyn Bay was very admirable and that’s something we want to build in this team, the fact that a Glamorgan team fights for everything that is out there.”
The defeat to Sussex was Glamorgan’s narrowest by a wickets margin in a first-class match for 44 years and with four remaining Specsavers County Championship matches before the end of the season off-spinner Andrew Salter is expecting more tight finishes as he looks to cement his position in the team.
“It was a good week in Colwyn Bay and we were a bit unfortunate to fall short,” said Salter. “There’s some good opportunities on the horizon and hopefully one I can take.
“If I play well enough I can keep myself in the squad and knock on some doors. It’s a big month ahead.”
