Somerset are Glamorgan's next opponents in the NatWest T20 Blast as the Welsh side head to Taunton for a contest scheduled to get underway at Taunton at 5.30pm on Friday, June 6th.
Match Preview
Last week's thrilling last-ball victory against the Sussex Sharks has lifted the Welsh county into fourth place in the table, whilst Somerset languish in seventh place with just a solitary win from their three matches so far this summer in the NatWest T20 Blast.
Taunton though has not proved a happy hunting ground in recent summers for Glamorgan who have only been victorious on their first out of their ten visits to Somerset's headquarters in the Twenty20 competition, with their sole victory coming back in July 2004 when Ian Thomas cut to shreds the home attack as he posted a brilliant 116 - still the only century in the competition by a Glamorgan batsman and, at the time, the highest-ever individual score anyone had made in the competition.
Glamorgan emphatically defeated the West Country side last July at the SWALEC Stadium, but the return game the following week at Taunton saw Somerset record an 64-run victory, even though for much of the home side's innings, Glamorgan had been in the driving seat. But Jos Buttler and Craig Meschede dramatically transformed the complexion of the game by adding 70 runs in the last four overs.
When the two sides met at Taunton in 2012 it was James Hildreth who hit the headlines as the middle-order batsman posted a fine century to lay the foundations for a Somerset victory, and all after an assertive innings of 85 by Australian Shaun Marsh for the Welsh side. 2011 also saw Somerset record a five-wicket success, whilst in 2010 a brace of violent blows by West Indian Kieron Pollard tipped the balance in the favour of the West Country side.
After the drama and excitement last Friday night at the SWALEC Stadium, Jim Allenby and his team will be looking to end the run of defeats in Twenty20 matches at Taunton as the Welsh county look to maintain their position towards the top of the table and their bid for a quarter-final place in this year's competition.
