Sophia Gardens is delighted to announce that next year we will host England and New Zealand in a men’s One-Day International on Friday, 8th September at the home of Glamorgan Cricket.
The fixture is the opening game of a three-match series between the two teams and will be the first time they have gone head-to-head in 50-over cricket since the historic 2019 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup final.
England are the number one-ranked ODI team in the world and the current 50-over world champions, while New Zealand are second in the rankings and have been runners-up in the last two men’s World Cup competitions.
Chief executive, Hugh Morris, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to welcome England and New Zealand to Cardiff next year for the opening match of their ODI series.
“With it being the first time the teams have played against each other since the World Cup final, it should be a special and unique occasion and allow supporters to reminisce about that famous day.
“They are the two best 50-over teams in the world and with superstar players throughout their ranks, we’re expecting another sold-out crowd and an electric atmosphere at Sophia Gardens.”
A public ballot was opened for the fixture which ran until 18th October. Any remaining tickets after the ballot will go on general sale on Tuesday, 1st November.
