Close of Play Report

After early morning rain, play began at 1530 with Dan Douthwaite and Harry Podmore resuming the bowling duties. Ben Green pulled Podmore for four before Lewis Goldsworthy on-drove Douthwaite for four. But later in the over Goldsworthy spliced an drive into the hands of Kiran Carlson at third slip. Three balls later, 149-4 became 149-5 as Green edged Podmore with Chris Cooke completing a regulation catch.
James Rew opened his account by flaying Douthwaite through the covers for a trio of fours before clipping Podmore to square-leg. Timm van der Gugten and Jamie McIlroy then had a spell in tandem with the Dutchman finding the edge of Gregory’s bat with Sam Northeast at second slip taking the catch. Craig Overton replaced him and started off by lofting van der Gugten over mid-wicket for six before James Harris and Andrew Salter had a trundle, with Harris removing Rew as David Lloyd, at first slip, completed a smart, low catch.
Somerset then declared leaving Glamorgan with fifty minutes of batting before the close as Lloyd and Douthwaite began Glamorgan’s second innings. It was though an all-too-brief pairing as to the second ball from Gregory, Lloyd attempted a single to Jack Brooks at mid-wicket but the fielder swopped in and ran out Douthwaite with a direct throw at the stumps.
Colin Ingram announced his arrival with a booming off-drive for four, before Lloyd flicked Davey for six over the ropes at short fine-leg. But next over, the Glamorgan captain edged a ball from Gregory into Overton’s hands at second slip as Sam Northeast joined Ingram and unfurled a crisply-struck off-drive for four. He added two more boundaries to his tally, each off the back foot through point, whilst Northeast cover drove Josh Davey for a pair of fours as as Glamorgan ended the day on 66-2.
