Asa Tribe rounded off his prolific season in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup by recording back-to-back hundreds, thereby equalling the feats of Glamorgan legends, Colin Ingram and Matthew Maynard. (writes Andrew Hignell)
Last Friday, Asa had completed an unbeaten 122 against the Worcestershire Rapids at New Road, before on Tuesday making an unbeaten 131 as Glamorgan defeated the Leicestershire Foxes at Sophia Gardens.
Colin Ingram has achieved the feat of successive List A hundreds on two occasions - in 2015, the southpaw made 109 against Kent at Cardiff on 28 July before on 31 July hitting 130 against Essex, also at Sophia Gardens. In 2017 Colin also made 115 against Hampshire at The Ageas Bowl on 12 May before on 14 May making 114 in the match with Kent at Swansea.
As far as other successive hundreds are concerned within a one-day competition, Matthew Maynard memorably struck successive hundreds in the Benson and Hedges Cup in 2000, with 109 against Surrey in the semi-final at Sophia Gardens and then a brilliant 104, albeit in a losing cause, in the final against Gloucestershire at Lord’s.
Asa is therefore the first Glamorgan batter to register successive unbeaten hundreds in List A games. He also ended the List A season with a tally of 401 runs at an average of 80.20 to top the Club’s batting averages in the Metro Bank competition.
Overall, Asa ended the group stages of the 50 overs competition in fourth spot in the batting averages with only three other batters doing better than the Jerseyman – the Hampshire pairing of Nick Gubbins (131.60), and Joe Weatherley (129), as well as Yorkshire’s Pakistan international Imam-ul-Haq.
